PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman made an unannounced visit to the headquarters of PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) Holding and PalmCo on Thursday (October 2, 2025). The surprise inspection caught both management and staff off guard.

During the visit, Minister Amran emphasized PTPN’s crucial role as a driving force for national agricultural development and food sovereignty. He reminded that as a state-owned enterprise, PTPN’s mission should not focus solely on profits, but also on job creation, economic equity, and improving community welfare.

“PTPN must stand at the forefront of food development. It’s not only about profit — it’s about justice, prosperity, and poverty alleviation,” Amran stated, as quoted by beige-heron-208544.hostingersite.com from the Ministry of Agriculture’s website.

Amran also highlighted the importance of strengthening the national food distribution network, especially for cooking oil and biofuel. He said that CPO (crude palm oil) supply chains should connect regions across Indonesia, noting that “Kalimantan and Sumatra can support Java. Our principle is achieving self-sufficiency and food independence.”

In addition, the Minister called on PTPN to open greater opportunities for young people to participate in the plantation sector. “We must prepare the younger generation — train and mentor them — so new leaders in this industry can emerge,” he said.

With concrete steps and shared commitment, Amran expressed optimism that PTPN could become a pillar of equitable agricultural development and strengthen Indonesia’s food security and sovereignty.

In line with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision, the Ministry of Agriculture continues to promote downstream development (hilirisasi) of plantation commodities to increase value-added benefits. The government has allocated up to IDR 371 trillion for this initiative, starting with IDR 9.95 trillion for the procurement of seeds for sugarcane, cocoa, coconut, coffee, cashew, pepper, and nutmeg.

“Our dream is massive downstream processing. When we process raw materials domestically, rural economies thrive, farmers’ incomes rise, and exports can multiply,” Minister Amran concluded. (P3)
