PALMOILMAGAZINE, KETAPANG – Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA) Ketapang has re-released a nine-year-old male Kalimantan gibbon (Hylobates albibarbis) into the high conservation value (HCV) area of PT Gemilang Makmur Subur (GMS), a subsidiary of the Bumitama Gunajaya Agro (BGA Group).

The gibbon, in good health and with its natural instincts intact, was voluntarily surrendered by villagers from the Sandai sub-district in Ketapang Regency.

The release is part of a broader conservation effort by BKSDA Ketapang in collaboration with BGA Group. Adi Susilo, an area conservation analyst at BKSDA Ketapang, noted that coordination was carried out with BGA Group’s Sustainability Governance and Reporting Department, which manages and monitors HCV areas.

According to official information provided to beige-heron-208544.hostingersite.com on Saturday, September 14, 2024, BKSDA received the gibbon and informed BGA Group of the plan to release it into the HCV areas of PT GMS, recognizing the site as an essential part of the ecosystem. This release follows the successful reintroduction of two other gibbons, Mona and Wuwu, into the same location.

With the full support, Adi Susilo and Yoga Budihandoko, PEH the expert of Conservation Section Region I Ketapang, in cooperation with the staffs of PT GMS released the animal. It was released in the areas that would be safe for the wild to gurantee the conservation of Owa Kalimantan and maintain the ecosystem balance.

BGA Group has its long term – commitment to environmental conservation by managing HCV areas that laid on about 8.311 hectares through PT GMS and PT DAS. One conservation was by releasing the Owa Kalimantan or Kelimpiau, the endemic species that was registered in CITES Appendix I and protected by the Government’s Regulation Number 7 / 1999. By the sustainable support to the initiative, BGA Group would play the active roles to maintain ecosystem balance, conserve the nature to the environment sustainability for the next generations.
