PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The World Trade Organization (WTO) Panel has officially ruled in favor of Indonesia in its trade dispute with the European Union over countervailing duties imposed on Indonesian biodiesel imports. The decision strengthens Indonesia’s position in advocating fair market access for its key export products, particularly palm oil–based biodiesel.
The dispute began in 2023, when the EU imposed additional duties on biodiesel from Indonesia, a move deemed inconsistent with WTO regulations. In its ruling, the WTO Panel recommended that the EU align its policies with the provisions set out in the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures (SCM Agreement).
“This is good news because the WTO Panel supported Indonesia regarding the imposition of dumping duties on biodiesel in Europe. With this decision, the EU will need to withdraw the duties it has enforced. Now, we just have to wait for the EU’s response,” said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in an official statement, quoted by beige-heron-208544.hostingersite.com on Tuesday (August 26, 2025).

Airlangga emphasized that the government will prepare strategic and measured steps to follow up on the ruling. He also highlighted that this victory will serve as a crucial catalyst for strengthening Indonesia’s main export commodities, including palm oil and biodiesel.
Looking ahead, the government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the implementation of the WTO’s decision through a collaborative and solution-oriented approach. “Indonesia will continue to safeguard its national interests while promoting fairer global trade,” Airlangga asserted.
